The South Bruce Grey Health Centre announced the temporary full closure of the Emergency Department at the Chesley Hospital site for the next 8 weeks due to a critical shortage of nurses.

The closure will start this Friday, October 7th until Friday, December 2nd. The in-patient unit, community lab collections & diagnostic imaging services in Chesley will remain open & operational for the community.

After reopening the Chesley ED to 24/7 service last spring, SBGHC made the decision at the start of September 2022 to close it overnight, but there have been multiple times in the past 3 weeks where it had to close for several full days on short notice due to the overall shortage of nurses.

During the temporary closure, SBGHC says it will be evaluating the level of service that can be safely provided at the organization’s four sites in the longer term with the staffing resources available.
