The South Bruce OPP advise that with warmer weather returning to Southern Bruce County they wanted to offer some cycling tips to help prevent serious crashes involving riders.

They say to Stay Alert, follow the rules of the road and always watch out for vehicle and assume they don’t see you.

Buckle the helmet, with them required for riders under 18 years of age they say to make sure they fit and are CSA approved.

Ride only during daylight. They say that biking at night is not recommended. The safest way to get your bike home after dark is to walk it.

Ride with traffic. They should ride as far to the right as possible in the same direction as traffic. Always ride single file.

Regular maintenance is important. Monitor brakes, tire pressure, chain, hear selector, derailer, seat and handle bar height.

Have a sound device. All bikes must have a sound signaling device like a horn or bell for safety.

Ride with both hands on the handlebars unless signaling a turn or a problem.
