Human trafficking continues to be a problem in rural areas like Bruce County.

South Bruce OPP Inspector Krista Miller and Detective Constable Melissa Laki were on the morning show Tuesday to go over what human trafficking is and why rural areas are becoming susceptible to it.

Laki says traffickers often target those who are insecure, have family issues, or there is a disparity in socio-economic status.

Laki says most of the victims are women between 15 and 32, with some as young as 12, but it can affect both males and females.

She says the number of people that pass through the area whether they are tourists or transient workers can also provide a potential market for human traffickers.
