The Southampton BIA shared some tips for preventing drowning recently as part of National Drowing Prevention Week this week from July 16th to 22nd.

In it they say to watch your children, not your phone when they are in water, to always stay within arms’ reach of children, and to teach them about pool safety as most drownings of children ages 1 to 4 happen in backyard pools.

The BIA say drowning is fast, silent and often occurs in less than 30 seconds.

Over 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents each year.
