The Southampton Golf and Country Club is honouring one of their own with a sizeable donation to the Lamont Sports Park.

Owner Kevin O’Brien has given $30,000 to the project in memory of the late John Stein, a friend and coworker who passed away suddenly in March. Stein’s name will now adorn two minor league batting cages at the park.

“John’s death was a huge loss to me, my staff and the entire community,” said O’Brien. “Not only did he help save my golf course, but he was a role model and a mentor to so many people. I am grateful to be able to commemorate John in this way.”

The campaign continues to raise money for the park’s second phase, consisting of two youth diamonds, an accessible playground, the two batting cages and a 200-seat community pavilion. The committee hopes to raise $1.5 million towards that goal.
