Yesterday morning at Perkins Park in Southampton, the Southampton Rotary Peace Pole was rededicated.

The ceremony on Thursday, September 21st featured addresses from Club President Dave Bertrand, Deputy Mayor Diane Huber, and Lori Kewaquom from Saugeen First Nation who illuminated the translation process of the Peace Pole message into Ojibwa.

This year the club is hosting Rei Kaneda, a Japanese Rotary Youth Exchange Student, and the club added a Peace message in Japanese and Rei took the opportunity to bring greeting from her home country.

Past President of the club Jenny Amy gave a short address as well. Peace Poles originated in post-WWII Japan and theirs now stands as a beacon of the club’s commitment to peacebuilding.
