The launch of the Southwestern Ontario Isotope Coalition was held this week in Owen Sound at BWXT.
The event, co-hosted by the City of Owen Sound, the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council, and the Nuclear Innovation Institute, brought together regional isotope champions, elected officials, and community stakeholders for a thought-provoking discussion and regional collaboration partnership announcements.
The SOIC was formed back in June with the goal of bringing together the region’s many strengths in supporting the increase in production, development, and use of medical isotopes in the fight against cancer.
Southwestern Ontario is uniquely positioned to grow as a center of isotope excellence.
It is home to Bruce Power, Georgian College, and the regional hospital.
The Coalition says its next steps are to bring regional collaborative partnerships together to develop a strategic approach to leverage the opportunities presented.
