Saugeen Shores Police Service were notified last night of a stolen vehicle that may have been headed toward the Town of Saugeen Shores.

Officers on patrol observed the suspect vehicle at around 9 pm southbound through Southampton. An officer was forced to veer onto the shoulder of the road to avoid a head-on collision.

The driver of the suspect vehicle continued in a dangerous manner towards Port Elgin.

The suspect vehicle was observed by another officer failing to stop at several controlled intersections and operating the vehicle in a manner dangerous to public safety.

Officers later located the vehicle at a gas pump in downtown Port Elgin. Police attempted to box in the suspect at the location.

The vehicle reversed at a high rate towards a marked police vehicle causing damage. It then proceeded to accelerate forward at a high rate striking another marked police vehicle.

Both police vehicles sustained heavy damage due to the collisions and were rendered inoperable. The suspect vehicle was able to exit the lot in a very dangerous manner without care or concern for other vehicles on the roadway or pedestrians in the area.

Saugeen Shores Police updated the OPP of the direction of travel of the vehicle at that time.

The OPP will be completing this investigation as they are the originating agency. Further updates will be provided when available.

One Saugeen Shores Police Officer received minor injuries due to the Collision.
