The Supreme Court of Canada has denied South Bruce Peninsula’s appeal of a lower court ruling which found Saugeen First Nation owns all of Saugeen Beach or the now former Sauble Beach.
This puts an end to a legal battle spanning for 35 years.
Saugeen Chief Conrad Ritchie says generations of Saugeen people have fought tirelessly against all odds to protect and preserve this deeply important area at the heart of our traditional territory.
Ritchie adds achieving this legal victory after all these years is a testament to the strength and resilience of our ancestors and our community.
