The region locally continues to be among the lowest for unemployment across Ontario.

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says the unemployment rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region dropped half a point in July to 3.8 per cent. The region currently has the lowest unemployment rate in the province.

The provincial unemployment rate increased by 0.3 percentage points to 5.8 per cent.

While education saw the largest loss, there was large gains seen in healthcare, social assistance as well as in the services producing sector.

Dana Soucie, Executive Director for the market planning board says the low unemployment rate contributes to the ongoing challenges for employers to attract new workers and fill job openings.
