A new report has found energy poverty is becoming an increasing issue locally.
United Way Bruce Grey’s report found energy affordability cannot be understood by looking at electricity or natural gas prices alone but instead the question on whether households have enough income to absorb the cost of essential energy at all.
The report, the Energy Poverty Brief brings together data from the Ontario Energy Board, Westario Power and United Way Bruce Grey’s own Utility Assistance Program to look at energy affordability from three perspectives, the provincial electricity system, a local electricity distributor and households seeking emergency assistance.
United Way’s data shows what numbers can’t, the household budget behind the utility account.
