A Tiverton woman is looking to connect people with the other side, in hopes of connecting a Jamaican family with the help they need.

Shelley Roberts is hosting a Psychic Party fundraiser this weekend to raise money in order to help relocate survivors of abuse in the Caribbean nation.

A report this year from Jamaica’s Ministry of Security showed the annual number of reported cases of domestic violence increased from just over 4,000 to around 8,000 in the last five years.

Roberts says she learned about how dire the domestic violence situation was down there on a trip in 2020, just before the pandemic started.

Since then, she has been trying to get the Rose Hope Foundation off the ground, in order to begin bringing survivors out of tough situations.

Roberts admits the Rose Hope Foundation is not currently a registered not-for-profit. She plans to travel to Jamaica in the coming months to register the foundation and continue working on bringing families to Canada.

The psychic reading event will run Saturday and Sunday in Tiverton this weekend, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lynn Stevenson is offering angel readings and half of the proceeds go to relocation efforts.

There are few spots remaining. To register, visit their Facebook page or contact Roberts at 519-386-6463.
