A West Grey man was arrested in Ottawa over the weekend at gunpoint and will now face charges for attempted murder of a Hanover resident.

Hanover Police responded to a call on Tuesday, August 9, of a 29-year-old man being treated for a gunshot wound in local hospital.

Following an investigation, a warrant was issued for a 30-year-old man from West Grey and a province-wide alert was issued to all police services.

The suspect was located in the nation’s capital Saturday evening, and was taken into custody by the Ottawa Police Services tactical team. He was escorted back to Hanover this week to face charges.

Deputy Chief George Hebblewaite thanked their policing partners in West Grey, the OPP and Ottawa for helping bring the investigation to a safe conclusion.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the OPP or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
