OPP West Region are telling business owners to be alert as there appears to be a new scam making rounds with fraudsters impersonating safety and fire inspections.
This all comes after a business within the west region lost $2000 to this scam with police saying the fraudster demanded advanced payment for inspection related supplies.
The scammer had contacted an employee and claimed the payment was urgent and to not consult a manager.
The employee was given QR codes linked to a crypto wallet when the employee then sent funds.
OPP say while inspections can be unannounced, all real inspectors will have proper ID and never ask for cash or credit card payments or take funds in cryptocurrency.
