The Western Ontario Wardens Caucus is calling on the province regarding Bill 100, the Better Regional Governance Act.
The proposed changes are causing concern from the caucus which would see provincially appointed Wardens and expanded executive powers, noting they represent a significant shift away from locally determined governance.
The WOWC notes counties operate differently than regions and cities, relying on collaborative, two tier systems which reflect rural realities and ensure balance representation.
WOWC Chair, Marcus Ryan says counties are already delivering on housing, infrastructure and economic growth adding governance changes must build on that success not undermine.
