Kincardine council has agreed to cover 60% of a full-time wage so that another Nurse Practitioner can be added to the local Family Health Team.

The $85,000 item was granted pre-approval for their 2023 budget and should represent an estimated 0.47% tax rate increase.

The Family Health team brought the request to the former council this summer, noting that while the Ministry of Health had approved them for 1.4 nurse practitioners, hiring someone to only work part-time has proved a challenge.

Councillor Doug Kennedy says he brought the motion forward so that they could get a jumpstart on filling the position.

As part of the motion, the Mayor and CAO have also been directed to meet with the Minister of Health to advocate for greater funding from the province for rural health care.
