Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound is getting a boost in transit from the provincial government.

MPP Rick Byers announced the region will be receiving $1,052,544 from the 2023-24 gas tax program.

The funding will be used to expand service hours, increase routes, improve accessibility and purchase new vehicles. Hanover will benefit from $740,828, Owen Sound getting a share of $245,919 and Meaford will receive $65,797.

Hanover Mayor Sue Paterson says the funding directly supports the Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit Corporation otherwise known as SMART which provides an accessible transit option for residents to get to and from commitments such as medical appointments, community events and shopping.
