After being damaged in a storm a few years ago, the North Shore Park in Port Elgin has reopened.

The town took the chance to re-imagine and rehabilitate the park.

When these storms hit, town crews spent much time cleaning up the damage as the town began to look at landscaping and planting options with the loss of vegetation.

Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbboneau says they’ve made many improvements to get the park back open.

“Earlier this spring we made some parking improvements along McVicar Street, put in some asphalt and concrete walking paths, we planted 120 new trees, put together a new central activity area around the splash pad. We have a new playground, it hasn’t been installed yet but will be in the next month or so.” said Charbonneau.

The park faced damage twice with a wind storm in September 2021 and again during the Christmas storm of 2022.
