Bruce County has added their voices to the Town of South Bruce Peninsula in apologizing for comments its Mayor Garry Michi made in regards the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation in an audio clip circulating online.

The County says his comments do not reflect the County Council nor their staff.

Warden Chris Peabody says the County fully support all of the federally-funded capital projects that support the Neyaashigmiing community, including those that will ensure access to safe drinking water for all First Nations People across Canada.

South Bruce Peninsula Deputy Mayor Jay Kirkland issued a similar statement Friday.

The Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation issued a statement on the recording and called for Michi’s immediate resignation adding someone who lacks the understanding and knowledge of the history of their oppression and their rights should not be a leadership position anywhere.
