The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority and the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority have issued a joint statement warning of the possibility of bluff erosion along shoreline communities.

They say the rainfall and snowmelt have caused saturated soil conditions which are making the bluffs along Lake Huron prone to collapsing.

They also say erosion at the bottom of the bluff leads to top-of-bluff recession that could put structures as well as lives at risk.

Officials are asking people not to walk along shoreline areas where a beach is accessible below bluffs.

They say bluff failures are unpredictable in terms of when it will occur and how extensive it will be.
