Saugeen Ojibway Nation’s Environment Office has responded to a recent Bruce Power livestream “Nuclear Fish City.”
The office says the livestream shows what the company believes is a warm water refuge where fish can gather and thrive but the reality is much harsher.
The office says an area of the water, a thermal plume has been heated through the nuclear power production process and released back into Lake Huron and fish are drawn to the warm water but it does not mean the fish are safe but rather the opposite.
The meaning was made clear last year after it was reported millions of fish were killed near the Bruce Power site.
The office notes if the public wants to see fish on camera, they need to ask a question of why are the fish there and what is the camera not showing.
The office’s full statement can be found here.
