A 36-year-old Exeter police officer has been charged with possession of child pornography, as well as making that material available, after an investigation by OPP.

Waterloo Regional Police services confirmed the man charged has been a member of their force for three years.

Members of the Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, Digital Forensics Unit and Huron County Detachment seized several electronic devices from the man’s home while executing a search warrant on Nov. 22.

As a result of their investigation, they laid charges against the man on Dec. 14.

Waterloo Police say he will remain suspended with pay as per the requirements of the Police Services Act of Ontario.

He was released from custody following a bail hearing with a scheduled court appearance in January.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this investigation or any incidences of internet child exploitation, to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
