Fighting stigma with kindness during Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

This is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

Throughout January, Alzheimer’s Societies across Canada are raising just that. Awareness.

Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Society of Huron County Cathy Ritsema says they want to bring the issue of dementia out of the home and into the communities.

Ritsema says part of the awareness is to fight the stigma associated with dementia and bring policy changes to help those living with the disease.

She says they want to light up communities with kindness and that could be a simple as shovelling the snow off of driveways or preparing a home-cooked meal.
