Some needy families will be able to have food on the table thanks the generosity of local residents.

The Salvation Army Food Bank in Port Elgin collected 1,053 pounds of non-perishable food items during the Shoreline Classics All Hands on Deck Food Drive on Wednesday.

Major Connie Armstrong says she was glad that everyone came out to support the food bank despite the recent bad weather.

The food drive was held at Vanderwerf’s Your Independent Grocer where $528 in cash and $30 gift cards were also collected.
