The Town of Goderich will be showing their pride next summer, after council approved some measures to recognize the local LGBTQ2 community.

At their Aug. 29 meeting, council passed two motions brought forward by Coun. Matt Hoy, including authorizing the placement of a Pride crosswalk in town.

The rainbow walk will be placed on the Square at the entrance of West St. getting installed no later than June 1, 2023. It will cost approximately $3,500.

Coun. Michele Hansen was happy to see the motion get support from this council after failing to pass under the previous regime.

Council also gave their support for a Pride festival to be held next summer. More details will be released at a later date.

The vote came one night before the recently formed Huron County Pride held a town hall meeting to introduce the community to their organization. Over 60 people showed up to share ideas of how to grow as well as to connect with members of the community.
