The Rotary Club of Grand Bend gave the Huron Country Playhouse a true windfall for their 50th anniversary.

To commemorate a half-century of theatre in the community, the Rotary Club gifted the theatre a windmill, which was placed at the entrance of their grounds.

Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director & CEO of Drayton Entertainment says the windmill is the perfect roadside marker, speaking to their rural roots, yet also symbolizing innovation and progress.

Rotary club members Jim Southcott, Gerhard Eilers, Ed Fluter, and Bryan Beattie took up a year-long, top-secret effort to procure the windmill for the theatre.

“Huron Country Playhouse is one of Canada’s largest and most successful summer theatres,” said Tom McCann, President of the Rotary Club of Grand Bend in a release. “It has become an economic hub, source of social engagement, and attraction of national acclaim for Huron County, and we felt this vital asset in our community should be recognized and celebrated.”

This is the last weekend of shows for the Huron Country Playhouse this summer, and they’re currently showing the Sound of Music.
