Local Howick Township farmer Matthew Van Ankum says he is opposed to the deep geological repository being proposed in South Bruce.

He says that is one of the reasons he is running for the Green Party in the Huron Bruce riding in June’s provincial election.

Van Ankum says he is also concerned about the increase in housing prices and that could be out of reach for many families looking to buy a home.

He says he is also troubled by the situation in Ukraine and feels the Province should do more to help.

Van Ankum is going up against incumbent Progressive Conservative candidate Lisa Thompson, Shelley Blackmore of the Liberals, NDP’s Laurie Hazzard, and Matt Kennedy of the New Blue Party.
