The Kidney Walk of Huron Bruce arrives again next month with the rest of the province taking part in similar walks.
Over 4 million Canadians are affected by kidney disease with several factors contributing to a persons risk for kidney disease including genetics to diabetes, high blood pressure, ethnic background and more.
When kidneys fail, people need dialysis several times a week or a kidney transplant with Ontario’s wait list being 4 years on average.
Kincardine resident Cathy Pennington shares her thoughts on the Kidney Walk.
“In 2015, after months of worry and unanswered questions, my son Christopher was diagnosed with kidney disease. He was just a child, and yet he faced that diagnosis with a quiet strength that took my breath away. Since then, I’ve walked every year—not just for him, but with him in my heart every step of the way. I walk because he never gave up, even when things were hard. I walk because I’ve seen what this disease can take—and what love, support, and hope can give back,” she says
The Huron-Bruce Kidney Walk will take place September 7th at Station Beach in Kincardine.
