Huron County is the latest in local government to extend their thanks to first responders, essential workers, and volunteers for their exceptional efforts to keep things going during the past weekend’s snowstorm.

In a release issued Thursday, Warden Glen McNeil thanked dedicated professionals who worked to keep roads cleared and emergency services available.

Among those workers who went above and beyond were the nursing staff at the Huron Residential Hospice in Clinton.

Executive director Willy Van Klooster says they had two nurses work 57 hours straight to serve their residents, eventually getting relieved by other staff who braved the storm, including one who arrived by tractor on Christmas Day.

“This was yet another demonstration of the culture and spirit that exists at Huron Hospice, of everyone chipping in and everyone working together and just taking care of those that we’re responsible to care for,” he says. “It’s at a more dramatic time like this that you in the community can see it more clearly, but we see it everyday. We see this enormous commitment on the part of the nurses in particular, but also the volunteers and others as well to ensure that the people are cared for.”
