The Muncipality of Kincardine are reminding residents that while raccoons and other wild animals may look cute, especially thanks to social media like tik tok, it is not advised that you approach the animal or attempt to take care of the animal yourself.

Kincardine says if you see a wild animal on a municipal property call the by-law dispatch line at 1-226-910-1322.

If you see it on private property it is the responsibility of the homeowner to contact pest control to trap or remove the animal safely.

Municipal staff they advise are not equipped or have the proper resources or training to hand wild or distempered animals.

If you come across a dead animal you can call Operations Staff at 519-396-3468 x 7122 to report it and have them dispose of the animal.

If you think an animal has rabies you can visit the Ministry of Natural resources website.
