Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson announced today that the Provincial Government is providing a total of just over $1 million dollars to support the improvement and expansion of public transit services across multiple local municipalities.

The funds are part of the province’s Gas Tax program which is set to allocate over $375 million dollars this year to 107 municipalities to deliver public transit.

Funding can be used to extend service hours, buy transit vehicles, add routes, prove accessibility or upgrade infrastructure.

The amounts each area is set to receive include:

  • The Town of Hanover (lead municipality for Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit which serves Arran-Elderslie, Brockton, Chatsworth, Hanover, Huron-Kinloss, Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Southgate and West Grey) $769, 398
  • Municipality of Meaford $65,797
  • City of Owen Sound $251,642

Thompson says the Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit is an extremely important service for many residents across Bruce and Grey Counties and adds the provincial bump up will help ensure that they continue through these challenging times.
