Bruce Grey Owen Sound Conservative MP Alex Ruff was one of the 151 who voted against the government extending the Emergency Act last night.

The motion passed by 34 votes with the NDP backing the minority Liberals that would give powers that would not normally exist including banks being able to freeze accounts without a court order.

Ruff says he can’t understand why Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insists on keeping the legislation active.

Ruff says he knows a number of constituents who have donated to the freedom convoy through the various crowdfunding sites and they are concerned about having their banks accounts and other assets seized as a result.

The Act was invoked by Trudeau on February 14th in response to the truck convoy and demonstrations on Parliament Hill and across Canada that were protesting the COVID mandates.
