The Provincial Government has announced just under $420,000 in funding to support free, local pre-apprenticeship training in the skilled trades.

The initiative is to be led by the Technical Training Group and it will see those across Huron and Perth Counties able to attain the skills and experience they need to get well-paying jobs in the field.

The locations of the training will be Clinton in Huron County and Listowel and Stratford in Perth.

The fields of machining, welding and metal fabrication will be done at an area school’s trades facilities in the evenings and on weekends.

There will also be the benefit of an 8-week paid work placement with a local employer included as part of the program.

The initiative comes at a time when the around 140 trades in Ontario are in drastic need of new people to join their fields.
