OPP warns against trespassing in fields

In Dufferin County there were multiple occurrences over the Canada Day long weekend of people stopping at the side of a highway and entering a canola field to take photos

The Ontario Provincial Police are reminding everyone to stay off private property after photos circulated on social media recently of people trespassing on a farmer’s field.

In the recent release police say that while some crops are beautiful this time of year, they can be easily damaged due to unwanted trespassing. In Dufferin County there were multiple occurrences over the Canada Day long weekend of people stopping at the side of a highway and entering a canola field to take photos.

Fields are not required to have signage or fencing in order to prevent trespassing. If a person damages any crops, police advise that criminal or mischief charges could be considered by police.

If anyone observes someone trespassing on agricultural land they should contact police immediately.
