Concerns are being raised by Huron East Councilor Ray Chartrand over the potential closure of the Seaforth Manor Long Term Care Home.

Chartrand says documents from the Ontario Long Term licensing public consultation registry shows a new long term care home in Exeter being built by Southbridge would take on beds from Seaforth and Hensall which are also owned by Southbridge and the homes would be closed.

Chartrand says the public, long term care staff and its residents are being left in the dark.

“Nobody at our (Seaforth) Manor knows this is happening. Who contacts the 60 employees? Who contacts the residents? Where is the public meeting for their input? That’s why they feel like they’re being hung out to dry. Nobody is contacting them but the government of Ontario are going ahead with all of this stuff behind closed doors with no input from the people running or living in that home” said Chartrand.

Despite expressed concerns there is nothing Huron East council can do as they do not have control over the actions of private businesses.

The new home in Exeter would have 160 beds.
