Grey Bruce Public Health, in collaboration with Lions Club volunteers, will be conducting publicly funded vision screenings at Bluewater District School Board schools this month, after successfully launching the in-school program at the Bruce Grey Catholic Board schools last fall.

The program involved SK students who completed 3 simple, non-invasive tests, designed to help identify the most common vision impairments in young children.

Trained volunteers with District A-9 of the Lions Club will conduct the tests, overseen by Public Health.

Their plan is to see 1,300 SK students between the last week of March and mid-May.

The screening will take place during the school day and will help identify such impairments as Amblyopia (commonly called “lazy eye”), Reduced Stereopsis (inability to recognize depth), Strabismus (commonly known as “eye turn”) and Refracted Vision Disorder (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism).
