Grey Bruce Public Health is dishing out tips for those hitting the water to prevent swimmers itch.
The skin infection causes minor but unpleasant symptoms typically caused by microscopic parasites released into bodies of water by infected snails.
The parasites burrow into your skin when swimming, wading or playing in contaminated water however the parasites die as humans are not a suitable host.
The itch can cause the skin to tingle, burn and itch which can last from a few days to up to two weeks.
Public health says the best way to avoid swimmers itch is to not swim in areas where it is a known problem, not swim near or wade in marshy areas where snails are commonly found and to towel dry or shower immediately after leaving the water.
