Results of homeless enumeration highlights problem in Bruce and Grey

Bruce County’s Human Services Department, along with Grey County, released their homeless enumeration results for a survey conducted last October.

In it they advise they were in contact with 77 residents who were experiencing homelessness with 64 of them taking part in the survey.

33 percent of respondents were staying in a municipally funded motel the night of the count, 34 percent were staying with friends or family or a self funded motel, just over half were experiencing chronic homeless of 180 cumulative nights a year.

The demographics saw just under 20 percent being under the age of 25 and nearly half being under 35.

In terms of physical health, just under half of those surveyed identified as having a medical illness or condition and 67 percent said they had a mental health concern.

The report was received by Bruce County’s Human Services Committee on Thursday.
