In the post the Service says that users of life jackets or PFD’s is a requirement when out on the water.

The fine for non-compliance is $240.

The post was done after officers came to the assistance of a swimmer in distress at Port Elgin Beach Tuesday. They had fallen off their floatie too far from shore.

They were able to get back to the shore with the assistance of a nearby kayaker.

They were found to be without PFD’s as well.

The force say that water is not forgiving and even the strongest swimmer can suddenly find themselves in distress.
