The Saugeen Shores Police Service shared winterizing tips for cottages recently created by their friends at Niagara Police.

In it they say winter is a great time to review your property to help protect it when the home is empty.

The tips include asking a neighbour to check on it periodically, motion activated lights to deter crime, a real or fake security camera, as well as arranging snow shovelling and the driveway clear.

Police also recommend that sightlines to the road be clear if possible to the property.

They advise that criminals are less likely to commit a crime if they can easily be seen.
