A late resident of St. Thomas is this year’s Ford C. Frick Award winner for excellence in broadcasting.
Jack Graney was an outfielder with the Cleveland Indians (now called Guardians) in the early 1900’s and later called games on the radio for the team after his retirement.
Graney died in 1978 at the age of 91.
He will be inducted posthumously during the Baseball Hall of Fame ceremony in Cooperstown next July.
The award is voted on by members of a Baseball Hall of Fame committee.
Previous winners include the late Blue Jays broadcaster Tom Cheek, Tigers broadcast legend Ernie Harwell, and former Expos broadcaster Dave Van Horne.
