A tree at the centre of heated debate on the balance between nature and development has been cut down at Macpherson Park in Kincardine.

Multiple concerned residents took to social media recently to say the tree should be preserved and had indicated that it had not been included in the original plans for the new parking lot at the park on Lambton Street.

At the Kincardine Council meeting Monday, Councillor Laura Haight had requested an update on the issue. Acting CAO and Treasurer Roxana Bauman had referred the question to the Director of Infrastructure and Development, Adam Wishar but he was absent.

Kincardine plans to plant a mature tree in an appropriate place in the future to replace the one removed.
