A total of 1815 charges were laid over the course of the August long weekend traffic safety campaign with West Region OPP.
The campaign which ran July 31st-August 3rd focused on negative driving behaviours including speeding, failure to wear a seat belt, distracted driving and impaired driving.
Of the 2107 traffic stops done across the West Region, 856 speeding charges led the way followed by 178 seat belt infractions, 45 for impaired driving and 11 Move Over charges.
There have been 14 deaths in speed related collisions in the West Region this year, being the leading contributor in crashes, fatalities and injuries across Ontario.
