The 38th Wingham Terry Fox Run is set for September 17th, joining the rest of the country in the run.
Wingham’s end of the run was first organized by Dale and Linda Edgar who through 34 years were able to raise $560,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation which now see’s Steve Jackson and Scott Miller organize the run.
Miller says its being connected with a name like Terry Fox is something he hangs his head up high for.
“Both Steve and I are testicular cancer survivors so cancer has touched our lives and we both believe that community is important and Terry Fox is probably the greatest inspiration in all of Canada I think but especially in the world of cancer. To do what he did while battling cancer is an inspiration and I’m honoured to be even said in the same breath as his name.” said Miller.
Miller adds its encouraging to see so many different communities getting involved saying at the end of the day it doesn’t matter which town or city you run in support for, it’s all going back to support one big great cause.
“There are many runs in our area. There is likely one close to your area. There’s one in Stratford, Listowel, Lucknow and Brussels as well. All of the money and proceeds go back to fund vital cancer research. Millions of dollars has been raised.”
Miller continued by saying while yes, there isn’t a cure yet its the funding which has supported research and has led to many beating cancer with the help of research, including himself.
Last year with 160 participants, $28,339 was raised from the Wingham run to support the Terry Fox foundation in its efforts to fighting cancer.
The Run in Wingham gets started at 11am starting at Lions Park.
