The Grey Bruce Health Unit is encouraging residents get up to date on COVID vaccinations, after Health Canada authorized the first coronavirus vaccine for children aged six months to five years earlier this week.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization is recommending a two-dose series of the Moderna Spikevax be offered to children in that age group, with an interval of at least eight weeks between the first and second dose. Ontario Ministry of Health recommendations are expected to follow. Once inventory becomes available, the Grey Bruce Health Unit will work on procuring the vaccine and immunizing this age group at upcoming clinics.

Grey-Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra says the vaccines are a safe and effective way to prevent severe illness and notes that the Health Unit will continue holding clinics based on need.
