G.C. Huston Public School in Southampton hosted a virtual book reading yesterday to classes across the Bluewater District School Board as part of National Indigenous History Month.

Author Dorothy Ladd shared her book “Memengwaa: The Monarch Butterfly” with Ojibway translation by Lori Kewaquom.

Dorothy explains where the idea for the book came from.

“I have a passion for butterflies. I raise them and tag them. And because they are an endangered species now I educate others, especially children. The book is used as a tool for that.”

Dorothy hails from Saugeen First Nation.

You can find more information on her book online.
