South Bruce OPP are reminding residents to be careful and watch for scams after someone from Kincardine lost $5800.

The victim was hit with a pop up on their computer saying there was an issue and given a phone number to contact.

While speaking with a “service tech” they were told the computer was hacked and to cover the cost of the repairs, $5800 in bitcoin was taken.

OPP say these types of scams have been going on for a long term adding if there is a problem with your computer its best to take to a local, authorized computer repair shop.

Police advise to always be cautious with unsolicited emails, phone calls, letters and even visitors at your door.
