Bill Walker says it was time for him to move on.

The Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP announced last week that he was not running in the June Provincial election.

Walker has been the MPP in the riding representing the Progressive Conservatives for the last 11 years.

He says being away from family was one of the reasons he decided to leave politics.

Walker wouldn’t elaborate whether his decision to leave was related to the pandemic or any of the mandates that have led to protests and disruptions.

He did say he was proud of what he had accomplished especially getting more long-term beds in the region.

Rick Byers, a longtime riding CFO and Walker’s campaign chair, has been appointed to succeed Walker as the Tory candidate.
