The OPP is raising awareness that June is Seniors Month in Ontario with the 2023 theme being “Working for Seniors”.

There are frauds currently targeting this vulnerable population in Ontario, who have spent their entire life saving funds for their golden years.

They are asking them as well as loved ones to share the types of fraud being undertaken in order to prevent them in the future.

They include investment fraud, romance scams, service scams, extortion scams and the emergency or grandparent scam.

They collectively represent a staggering over half billion in victim losses in Canada last year.

Of that $138 million was from senior victims.

They lose an average 33% more than other age demographics.

And only 5-10% actually report being a victim.

More information on the scams currently being perpetrated in Canada you can visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website.
