South Bruce council has confirmed the date for a DGR referendum decision.

The future of a nuclear fuel storage site will run from October 21st-28th.

During the referendum voters in South Bruce will be asked just one question, if they are in support of South Bruce declaring to be a host for the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s proposed Deep Geological Repository.

Voting will be done over the internet and by phone as council discussed the idea of a paper ballot it was instead decided to go with the usual voting methods.

This referendum will become key for South Bruce residents as over 50 per cent of eligible voters need to cast a ballot in order for the referendum to be binding.

Should less than 50 per cent vote, the decision is then made by council.
